My journey into social work and psychotherapy has always been rooted in one core belief: people are far more capable of growth and change than they often realize. Throughout my career, I have worked in complex and high-intensity settings, supporting individuals and families through crisis, trauma, illness, and death and loss. What I carry forward from these experiences is a deep respect for human resilience and the courage it takes to seek support.

I bring nearly 20 years of experience working with children, youth, adults, and families across hospital, community, shelter, legal, immigration-related, and university settings. My work has included supporting individuals navigating homelessness, involvement in the legal system, and complex social and systemic challenges. I have supported individuals navigating mental health challenges, grief and loss, trauma, substance use, and significant life transitions, as well as survivors of domestic violence and families involved in the legal system.

I also have extensive experience supporting parents in the perinatal period, including those navigating perinatal mood disorders, experiencing neonatal loss, and families with infants admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

My experience in family mediation involves supporting individuals and couples navigating separation and divorce. This has included helping families develop parenting plans, navigate transitions, and working toward more effective and cooperative co-parenting relationships.

My approach is person-centred, trauma-informed, and collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, somatic approaches, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and Gottman Method therapy for couples and relationships. I tailor each session to meet you where you are — helping you better understand patterns, build coping strategies, and move toward meaningful change.

My goal is not to work on you, but to work alongside you as you navigate challenges, strengthen your resilience, and reconnect you with your sense of self, others, and community.

Welcome! My name is Elena (pronounced eh-LAY-nuh), and I’m so glad you’re here. Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, and taking that first step toward support is something to be proud of. During our time together, we’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I want therapy to feel like a space where you can be open, honest, and truly yourself. Together, we’ll build a trusting relationship, explore what brought you to therapy, and work toward the changes that feel meaningful and important to you.

I am a Registered Social Worker who works with adults who have experienced trauma, PTSD/C-PTSD, and occupational stress injury. I have experience working with trauma exposed professionals such as: first responders, public safety personnel, military members, veterans, healthcare professionals and individuals in high stress work environments.

I also work with individuals who have experienced various mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders, major life transitions, grief, and traumatic bereavement.

I use EMDR therapy to help you work through experiences that may still be affecting you today, whether that’s early attachment wounds, childhood trauma, feelings of abandonment, or difficult relationship experiences. I’m especially passionate about supporting people who have experienced intergenerational trauma, unhealthy relationship dynamics, narcissistic abuse, and other experiences that have left a lasting impact. Sometimes, these experiences can shape how we see ourselves and how we connect with others, even long after they’ve happened. My goal is to help you feel less weighed down by the past and more able to move forward with a greater sense of safety, self-trust, and confidence.

My approach to therapy is grounded in empathy, respect, and a genuine desire to build your inner strength in navigating life’s challenges. Trauma can leave people feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and unsure of where to turn. With my background in trauma-informed care, I strive to create a safer space where we can engage in curiosity about your thoughts, emotions, and experiences to gain insight into your challenges and strengths. I also draw from ACT, DBT, and IFS to help you better understand yourself, navigate difficult emotions, build practical coping skills, and develop a more compassionate relationship with the different parts of yourself. I believe therapy should be collaborative and tailored to you, so we can find approaches that feel comfortable, meaningful, and helpful. I will support you in connecting with your inner resources, understanding the messages your emotions are sending, and finding healthier ways to cope. In our sessions, you can expect a collaborative process where my goal is to provide skills that honor your growth and healing, while working toward your goals on the way to building a life in which you can thrive.

I invite you to book a free consultation where we can discuss your needs and ensure we are a good fit.
